This is just about what I've found to be the case. A lot of people root for their political party just like they root for their sports team. They don't think about it very deeply. They don't like to spend any time thinking critically about any political idea they suspect they might disagree with. When people identify with a party, questioning that party is about the same as questioning themselves.
