In our resort each cluster of rooms had a statue of the native Taino gods in it with a plaque about the god. Most of the Dominican people that we saw looked like they were of African descent. In general, Dominicans are a mix of Hispanic, African, and native populations. They are supposed to be very proud of their native heritage and they celebrate a good number of native holidays.
